relational-Cultural Psychotherapy

Relational Psychotherapy refers to an underlying belief that healthy connections with significant relationships in your life lead to a healthier happier you. In the therapy room, my primary interest is in maintaining a real connection with you. We spend time talking about how we interact and what the state of our own relationship is because the dynamics you experience outside of the therapy room are often replicated inside the therapy room as well. It can be a much safer place to explore those dynamics in a confidential, accepting, and non-judgmental environment. Research also shows that the relationship between therapist and client is a major factor in what clients consider successful outcomes in therapy.

Connection with others is important, but equally important is connection with yourself. Please see the section Mind and Body to explore the significance of this other type of connection.

Cultural therapy means that I strive to see you in your environmental context, taking into consideration social privileges and pressures associated with race, gender, class, culture, and personality and family structure. Instead of one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor my approach to honor your experience and strengths.
